No medications! Drop your cholesterol really fast.

Lower your cholesterol without medication

If your cholesterol is extremely high and the doctor told you, you have to get on medications, what should you do?  Assuming you don't have heat disease, you might be able to lower your cholesterol naturally. However there is a catch to this.  You are going to have to drastically change your lifestyle. These are the following steps you would probably have to take:

  1. Keep a food diary manually or online.
  2. Keep your cholesterol under 200 milligrams per day
  3. Increase your fiber intake to 30 milligrams per day
  4. Go vegan or only have fish as your meat source.
  5. Keep your alcohol consumption down
  6. Exercise

Let's go over some of these steps.  If you keep a food diary, get the 2012 Calorie King food counter guide and write down your food intake manually.  It's a great book to have, you can look up different foods before consuming them.  If you don't want to write down your foods, you can do it online with online food counters like, Fat Secret, My Daily Plate, Calorie Count, and SparkPeople.  Guess what!  All these programs are free.  I love Calorie King but this one is not free; you actually have to pay for it.

Drink alcohol in moderation, that means a glass of red wine or one beer a day for women and two drinks a day for men.  Too much alcohol consumption can actually cause you to develop heart disease by increasing your blood pressure, your blood fats (triglycerides), and your weight.  If your cholesterol is high and you don't want to be on medication, you are going to have to cut back on your alcohol consumption.

If you don't want to go vegan and you don't like fish, stick to chicken, turkey or buffalo meat.   Your meat portion should be 3 to 4 ounces per day that's it.  Your plate should be mainly vegetables and complex carbohydrates such as lentils, beans, and brown rice.

If you haven't exercised in years, start with walking.  If you can only walk for 3 to 5 minutes, do that two or three times a day and gradually build up to walking 30 minutes a day.  You don't need to get a fancy gym membership; all you need are good gym shoes and your will to embrace your new wellness program.  If your knees bother you, consider getting an indoor bike.  Buy a relatively new one, on sale, or go on Ebay or Craigslist -- there is always someone getting rid of fitness equipment never used.

Avoiding the medication routine is appealing but requires discipline. Nevertheless, sometimes, even strong will and discipline are not enough to trigger positive results. In that case, your doctor can help by prescribing effective medication. Please, feel free to share your experience with this plan. I am curious to know whether it actually work.
